A Contra Voucher records money moving between two of your own accounts, for example taking cash out of the bank or depositing cash into it. No outside customer or supplier is involved.
When to use it
- You withdraw cash from the bank for office use.
- You deposit cash collections into the bank.
- You move money from one bank account to another.
Before you start
- Both accounts (the cash account and the bank account) must already exist in your Chart of Accounts.
- You need an accounting role to create and post the voucher.
Where to find it
ERP > Accounts > Contra Voucher.
The fields on this screen

| Miti (BS) | Nepali (BS) date of this transfer. Pick from the calendar - the AD date is filled in for you. | Yes |
| From Account | Account the money comes FROM (credited) | Yes |
| To Account | Account the money goes INTO (debited) | Yes |
| Amount | How much is moving between the two accounts. | Yes |
| Reference No | Bank slip or other reference for this move between your own cash and bank accounts. | No |
| Remarks | Short note on why this entry was made. It shows on reports and makes the entry easy to find later. | No |
| Voucher | Attach scanned voucher / supporting document | No |
Adding a record
- Open ERP > Accounts > Contra Voucher and click Add.
- Set the Miti and write the Remarks.
- Choose the "To" account (where the money goes) and the "From" account (where it comes from).
- Enter the Amount.
- Click Save, then open the voucher and click Post to put it on the books.
- Post asks only for an optional comment. Confirm it, and the entry is on your books. (Cheques and IPS belong to Receipt Voucher; a Contra never asks about them.)
Changing or deleting a record
- A Draft can be edited or deleted.
- A Posted voucher is on your books. Use Reverse/Unpost to bring it back to draft, then edit and post again. Cancel a draft you no longer need.
Worked example
Withdraw 100,000 from Nepal Bank for petty cash:
- Miti: today. Remarks: "Cash withdrawn for petty cash".
- To Account: Cash in Hand. From Account: Nepal Bank Ltd - 001. Amount: 100000.
- Save, then Post. Your cash goes up by 100,000 and your bank goes down by 100,000.
Tips and common mistakes
- Pick the right direction. "To" is the account that gains the money; "From" is the one that loses it. If you swap them, the entry is reversed.
- The Amount cannot be zero. Posting a zero amount is refused.
- The Voucher Number may be blank when you save. Type one in if your office needs a running number.
- Nothing affects your accounts until you Post.
- Post does not ask for a payment method. A Contra moves money between your own cash and bank accounts, so there is no cheque or IPS to record. Those questions appear only on Receipt Voucher.
