The list of kinds of leave staff can pick from when they apply, such as sick, annual or unpaid.
When to use it
Once, when setting the system up. After that, rarely: only when your leave policy gains or loses a kind of leave.
Before you start
Nothing else has to exist first.
Where to find it
Open the HR area from the main menu, then Leave, then Leave Type.
The fields on this screen
| Field (on screen) | What to enter | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Leave Type Name | The name staff pick when applying for leave. It is what shows on the approved and unapproved reports. | Yes |
| Paid Leave Allowed | (not explained yet) | Yes |
| Unpaid Leave Allowed | (not explained yet) | Yes |
How it works
The name you enter is what staff pick on a Leave Request, and it appears on the approved and unapproved leave reports. That is all this screen does.
The day allowances are not enforced
The paid and unpaid day figures are not applied anywhere. Nothing counts a person's leave against them, nothing warns when an allowance is used up, and nothing refuses a request that goes over it.
They also do not decide whether leave is paid. When attendance is built, every approved leave day is treated as paid leave, whichever kind was chosen, even a kind you have named unpaid. To make leave unpaid, mark those days as loss of pay on the Attendance Finalize grid.
Treat the figures here as a written note of your policy, and keep the balances yourself.
Tips and common mistakes
- Keep the list short and the names plain. The name is the only thing that tells the person applying and the approver what the leave is.
- Renaming a kind of leave changes it on every request that already used it. Requests point at this list; they do not keep their own copy of the name.
