Lesson

Last reviewed

One unit of learning inside a course: a page of text, a video, a document, a link, or a pointer to an article you have already written.

When to use it

When you fill out a course with the material people will actually work through.

Before you start

  • The Course Module this lesson belongs to must exist.
  • If the lesson points at an article, write the Article / SOP first.
  • You need create rights on this screen.

Where to find it

Knowledge and Training > Lesson.

The Knowledge and Training group is switched off in the main menu for now, so the entry is not shown. Until it is switched back on, open the screen from a link someone sends you or from a saved bookmark.

How it works

Completion is measured against the lessons in a course. Every lesson counts the same, whatever its length or content type. A learner has finished the course when there is a Lesson Progress row marked Completed for each one.

So adding a lesson is a real change for people already enrolled. A learner who had finished all eight lessons drops back to eight of nine the moment you add a ninth. Their enrolment stops counting as complete the next time the course totals are worked out.

Pick the Content Type to match where the material actually lives. Use Text and fill in the Body when you write the lesson here. The other types point at a file, an article or an address instead.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Do not use a lesson as a heading or a separator. Anything you add is a lesson somebody has to complete before the course counts as done.
  • Get the lessons in place before you enrol people, so nobody has their progress reset.
