Daily MIS Report

Last reviewed

A single-page management summary of one day's business: how much cash and bank you started and ended with, the day's receipts and payments, what you sold, bought and produced, your closing stock, and a day book of every voucher by type.

When to use it

Each morning (or at the end of the day), to see the whole picture in one place: cash position, trading and stock, without opening several separate reports.

Before you start

  • The day's vouchers are entered and posted.
  • Your cash and bank accounts sit under the cash and bank account groups.

Where to find it

Reports > Finance > Daily MIS Report.

The fields on this screen

Field (on screen) What to enter Required
From Date Start of the period (defaults to today) Yes (defaulted)
To Date End of the period (defaults to today) Yes (defaulted)

For a single day, leave both on the same date. For a range, such as a week, widen them.

Running the report

  1. Open Reports > Finance > Daily MIS Report.
  2. Accept today's date, or set a date or a range.
  3. The page shows, top to bottom: Opening Balance, Day Summary, Receipts by head, Payments by head, Sales / Purchase / Production by product, Closing Stock, Day Book by voucher type, and Closing Balance.

Reading the result

  • Opening / Closing Balance are your cash and bank balances at the start and end of the period. These are the accurate ledger figures.
  • Day Summary shows total receipts, total payments and the net of the two.
  • Receipts / Payments by head break those down by the account they came from or went to.
  • Sales / Purchase / Production by product show quantities and amounts for the period.
  • Closing Stock is an indicative quantity-on-hand per product.
  • Day Book lists every voucher type with its count and debit/credit totals.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Net Movement in the Day Summary counts only receipt and payment vouchers. Your bank balance can also change through journal and contra entries, so the change from opening to closing may differ from Net Movement. Trust the Opening and Closing balances for the true cash position.
  • Closing Stock here is indicative only. For exact stock on hand and valuation, use the Stock reports.
  • Pick the active organization (or "All") before you run it, to set which figures it covers.
