A trial balance of movement only. Each account shows the debits and credits actually transacted in the period, with opening-balance entries left out. There is no opening or closing column.
When to use it
When you want to see what the period itself did (the month's activity per account) without the balances brought forward crowding the view.
Before you start
- Vouchers for the period are entered.
- Accounts are placed under an account group, which is how the rows are arranged.
- You need view access to the Finance reports.
Where to find it
Reports > Finance > Trial Balance > Trial Balance (Only Transaction).
The filters
| Filter (on screen) | What it does | Required |
|---|---|---|
| From Date | Start of the period this report covers. | No |
| To Date | End of the period this report covers. | No |
How it works
- One row is one account. It shows Account Head, its Account Group, and the Debit and Credit transacted between your two dates.
- These are period movements, not balances. There is no opening or closing column here, on purpose. For those, use the Normal Trial Balance.
- Opening-balance vouchers are left out. An account that only has a brought-forward figure and no activity does not appear at all. That is what makes this screen different from the Normal Trial Balance, and it is the reason to use it.
- Total debit and total credit should still agree, because every voucher in the period balances on its own.
- Draft vouchers are included. The Normal Trial Balance and the Ledger Summary use posted vouchers only, but this screen does not, so an unposted entry adds to the movement shown. Check the stale-draft list in Books Health before you quote a figure from here.
Tips and common mistakes
- Do not use this report to prove the books balance for a year. Post your drafts and run the Normal Trial Balance instead. It has the opening, the closing and the balance check.
- If you cannot find an account you expected, it usually had no activity in the date range. Widen the dates before you assume something is missing.
