The school's daily bell schedule: each teaching period and each break, with its start and end time and its place in the day.
When to use it
Once when you set the school year up, and again whenever the bell times change.
Before you start
Nothing else has to exist first. Set the periods up before you build the timetable.
Where to find it
Masters > School > Period.
The fields on this screen
| Field (on screen) | What to enter | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Period name | for example Period 1, Lunch | Yes |
| Start time | HH:MM (24h) | No |
| End time | HH:MM (24h) | No |
| Order | Where this period sits in the day. Number them from the first period through to the last. | No |
| Break / recess | Tick for a break or recess rather than a teaching period. | No |
| Active | Untick a period no longer in the bell schedule. It is then not offered when you build a timetable. | No |
How it works
A period posts nothing. Saving one adds it to the day's schedule. From then on it is offered in the Period list on the Timetable screen, but only while it is ticked Active. Order decides the sequence the periods are listed in, so number them the way the day runs.
A period ticked as a break is still part of the day. It marks recess or lunch, so the timetable shows the gap.
Unticking Active stops a period being chosen for new timetable slots. Slots already using it keep it, so retire a period this way instead of deleting it.
Tips and common mistakes
- Enter times as HH:MM on the 24 hour clock, for example 13:30. That is what the hint on the field asks for, and what the timetable expects to display.
- Nothing checks the times. An end time earlier than the start time, or two periods that overlap, will save without complaint.
