Production Order

Last reviewed

A Production Order plans one manufacturing run. It lists the raw materials going in and the finished goods coming out, for a chosen quantity. It is only the plan: the raw materials are issued and the finished goods received as separate steps.

When to use it

When you are about to run a batch and want a record of the recipe, the inputs and the expected outputs.

Before you start

The recipe (BOM) and the products (raw materials and finished goods) should exist in the masters.

Where to find it

ERP > Manufacturing > Production Order.

The fields on this screen

Section Field (on screen) What to enter Required
Voucher Details Miti Nepali (BS) date of this document. Pick from the calendar - the AD date is filled in for you. Yes
Voucher Details Voucher Number Numbered automatically when you save. Leave it blank unless you need to set the number yourself. No
Voucher Details Cost Center Branch, project or department this document belongs to. Lets you report profit and cost per unit. No

PO Details BOM (Recipe) Recipe this run follows. Picking one fills the input and output lines and scales them to your target yield. No
PO Details Target Yield Qty (runs) How much of the recipe's main item this run should produce. The input and output lines scale to match. No
Inputs (RM) Product Raw material or component this run consumes. Yes
Inputs (RM) Sub-product Optional variant of the item, such as size, colour or grade. No
Inputs (RM) Cost Center Branch, project or department for this line only. Leave blank to use the one in the header. No
Inputs (RM) UOM Unit the quantity is measured in - piece, kg, litre and so on. No
Inputs (RM) Qty How much of this material the run consumes. Yes
Inputs (RM) Rate Cost of one unit of this material. Leave it blank if you are only planning quantities. No
Inputs (RM) Amount Quantity multiplied by Rate. Worked out for you. No
Inputs (RM) Description Optional note for this line, such as a specification or batch detail. No
Outputs (FG/Byproducts/Waste) Product Finished item, by-product or waste this run produces. Yes
Outputs (FG/Byproducts/Waste) Sub-product Optional variant of the item, such as size, colour or grade. No
Outputs (FG/Byproducts/Waste) Cost Center Branch, project or department for this line only. Leave blank to use the one in the header. No
Outputs (FG/Byproducts/Waste) UOM Unit the quantity is measured in - piece, kg, litre and so on. No
Outputs (FG/Byproducts/Waste) Qty How much of this item the run produces. Yes
Outputs (FG/Byproducts/Waste) Rate Value of one unit of this output. The order's value is the total of the output lines. No

Outputs (FG/Byproducts/Waste) Description Optional note for this line, such as a specification or batch detail. No
Outputs (FG/Byproducts/Waste) Output Type Marks this line as the finished product, a by-product or waste. It fills in from the recipe you pick. No

How it works

  1. Create the order. Pick the BOM and enter the target yield; the inputs and outputs fill in and scale to your quantity, and you can adjust them. When you save, the order is numbered (PRD-...).

  2. Submit, then Approve.

  3. From here, do one of two things:

    • receive the finished goods through Finished Goods Received as they come off the run. The order closes on its own once every output line is received.
    • click Complete yourself once the run is done.

There is no separate "Start Production" step.

  4. The raw materials are issued (RM Issue) and the finished goods taken into stock (Finished Goods Received) as the run goes on.

Worked example

Make 20 Office Chairs from the Office Chair recipe:

  1. Create: BOM = Office Chair Recipe, Target Yield = 20. The inputs (for example Steel Rod 40) and outputs (Office Chair 20, Primary) fill in. Save. It is numbered PRD-000001.
  2. Submit, Approve, then either receive the outputs (the order closes itself) or Complete.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Each input and output line needs a Product and a Quantity.
  • Picking a BOM fills and scales the grids. If you change the target yield, the quantities rescale, and you are asked first before lines you have edited are overwritten.
  • A Production Order is a plan. It does not move stock on its own; the RM Issue and Finished Goods Received do.
