VAT Filing Period Issues

Last reviewed

A list of VAT bills that are filed in a different month from the bill itself. Every VAT register line has a filing period: the month and year of the VAT return it goes into. Normally that is the bill's own month. If someone sets a different month or year, the bill's VAT moves into another return without any warning. This report finds those bills.

When to use it

  • Before you file a VAT return, to check that no bill of the month has slipped into another one.
  • When a month's VAT on the return does not match your sales or purchase books.
  • After you correct bill dates or Mitis.

Before you start

  • You need view access to the Audit reports.

Where to find it

Reports > Audit > VAT Filing Period Issues.

The fields on this screen

Filter (on screen) What it does
Issue Shows one kind of problem only. Leave it blank to list every kind.

The report looks at every year, not only the fiscal year selected at the top of the screen.

Running the report

  1. Open Reports > Audit > VAT Filing Period Issues.
  2. Leave Issue blank to see everything, or pick one kind.
  3. Double-click a row to open that voucher and correct its VAT line.

How it works

Each row names one problem and how serious it is:

  • Filed in a month that has not come yet (Error): the bill is filed in a future month, so no return can include it yet. This is usually a wrong year, such as 2083 typed for 2082.
  • Filed before the bill month (Error): the bill is filed in a month before it was issued. A return cannot include a bill that did not exist yet.
  • Filed after the bill month (Review): the bill is filed in a later month that has already come. This can be genuine, for example a purchase bill that arrived late and was claimed in the next month. Check it, and leave it if it was intended.

The columns side by side are the evidence: Bill Miti and Bill month, then Filed in and Months apart. Months apart is how many months later the bill is filed; a minus figure means earlier.

Tips and common mistakes

  • A VAT line with no filing month is not listed here. The return files it in its bill's month automatically.
  • This report does not correct anything. Fix the VAT line's month or year, and it drops off the list.
  • If the return for the wrong month has already been filed with the tax office, speak to your accountant before you move the bill.
