A heading you file cost centers under. Branches, projects or departments of the same kind can then be reported together.
When to use it
Before you add cost centers, if you already know how they should roll up: all showrooms under one heading, say, and all projects under another.
Before you start
Nothing else has to exist first. You need the accounts or admin setup role.
Where to find it
Masters > Cost Center Master > Cost Center Group.
The fields on this screen
| Field (on screen) | What to enter | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Cost Center Group Name | Name of the group, such as Production or Administration. It must be unique. | Yes |
| Cost Center Group Code | Short code for this group, such as PROD or ADMIN. It must be unique. | Yes |
How it works
A group posts nothing on its own. Once saved, it appears in the Cost Center Group list on the Cost Center screen and on Projects. When cost centers are filed under it, anything that reports by cost center can be rolled up to the group.
If you rename a group, the new name shows everywhere the group appears. Do not delete a group that cost centers are already filed under. Rename it instead, or move the cost centers out first.
Tips and common mistakes
- Both the name and the code are required, and both must be unique. Reusing a name gives "Cost Center Group Already Created".
- The group is only a heading, so nothing is charged to it directly. Postings carry a cost center, and the cost center carries the group.
