The broad group each voucher type belongs to, such as Accounts, Inventory or Production. It is a label that lets you group and filter voucher types by area.
When to use it
Hardly ever, because the standard categories ship with your system. Add one only if your company needs an unusual grouping.
Where to find it
Setup > Accounts Setup > Voucher Category.
The fields on this screen
| Field (on screen) | What to enter | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Voucher Category | Name of the category, such as Accounts, Inventory or Statutory. | Yes |
The standard categories
Accounts, Inventory, Production, Human Resource, Gate, Statutory, Miscellaneous, Quotation and Order. They are shared and ready to use.
Adding a record
- Open Setup > Accounts Setup > Voucher Category.
- Click Add / New.
- Enter the category name.
- Click Save.
Tips and common mistakes
- Check the standard list first. You will rarely need a new category.
- A category is a broad bucket, not a single voucher type, so do not make one category per voucher type.
