The physical unit you rent out (a shop, stall or shutter). It is known by where it is, never by who happens to occupy it.
When to use it
When the property is set up, when a new unit is built, and when an existing unit is split into smaller ones.
Before you start
The Block and the Floor the unit sits on must already exist.
Where to find it
Masters > Rental > Shutter.

How it works
A shutter posts nothing. A Tenancy attaches a customer to it, so the unit has to exist before anyone can move in.
The unit outlives its tenants, which is the reason it is kept separate. When a tenant leaves, you end the tenancy and create a new one against the same shutter, so the history of who occupied it stays intact.
A rate charged per square foot is worked out from Area (sq ft), so a wrong area bills the wrong rent every month without anyone noticing.
To split a unit, add the new smaller units and set Subdivided From on each of them to the original. Leave Subdivided From empty for a whole unit.
Tips and common mistakes
- The name only has to be unique within its block and floor, not across the property, so "Shutter 1" can exist in every block.
- Untick Active to take a unit out of service. Its past tenancies stay where they are.
