One line per customer: what the books say they owe, how much of it the cheques you hold cover, what is receipted but not yet cleared, and what has bounced.
When to use it
- To see which customers owe more than the cheques you hold from them.
- Before a collection round, to decide whom to visit.
Where to find it
Reports > Banking > Customer Cheque Position.
The fields on this screen
| Field (on screen) | What to enter | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Customers | All customers, only those holding open cheques, or only those holding none | No |
Reading the result
- Receivable (books) is what the customer owes in the accounts, and Of which overdue the part that is overdue.
- PDCs in hand not due and In hand due not deposited are the held cheques covering it.
- Not covered by cheques in hand is the receivable left once those cheques are counted.
- Receipted not yet cleared is money already credited to the customer on a posted receipt whose cheque the bank has not paid. If those cheques bounce, the amount is owed again.
- Bounced unresolved and Next cheque due point to the follow-up.
Tips and common mistakes
- Only held cheques count as cover. A cheque on a posted receipt has already reduced the receivable, so counting it again would cover the same money twice.
