The filing tree for your knowledge base and your training courses. Each category can sit under another one, and each says whether it is for articles, for courses, or for both.
When to use it
Before you write your first article or build your first course. Come back whenever a new subject area appears that does not fit the categories you already have.
Before you start
You only need the parent category, if you want this one nested under an existing area, and create rights on this screen.
Where to find it
Knowledge and Training > Knowledge Category.
The Knowledge and Training group is switched off in the main menu for now, so the entry is not shown. Until it is switched back on, open the screen from a link someone sends you or from a saved bookmark. If your organisation uses the knowledge base, ask your administrator to turn the group back on.

How it works
Saving adds the category to the tree, and it can then be picked on the Article / SOP screen and the Course screen. That is its whole effect: nothing is published, and no author is notified.
Leave the parent blank to create a top level area, or pick an existing category to nest under it. The sort order decides the order categories are listed in. If you leave it alone, they appear in the order they were created.
To retire a category, untick Active instead of deleting it. Articles already filed under it then keep their place.
Tips and common mistakes
- Keep the code short and unique.
- A careless choice of parent can file a category under itself. Pick a different category, or leave the parent blank.
- Set the kind correctly. A category marked for courses is not offered when someone files an article.
