A rule that tells the system how two units relate, for example "1 Kilogram = 1000 Gram" or "1 Dozen = 12 Pieces".
When to use it
When you buy, stock or sell the same item in more than one unit and want the system to convert the quantities for you.
Before you start
- Both units must already exist under Unit of Measure.
- You need an admin role.
Where to find it
Masters > Units > Unit of Measure Conversion.
The fields on this screen
| Field (on screen) | What to enter | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Unit One | The unit you are converting from. | Yes |
| Unit Two | The unit you are converting to. | Yes |
| Conversion Rate | How many of Unit Two make one Unit One. One Dozen to Piece is 12. | Yes |
Adding a record
- Open Masters > Units > Unit of Measure Conversion.
- Click Add / New.
- Pick Unit One and Unit Two, then enter the Conversion Rate.
- Click Save.
Changing or deleting a record
- To edit, open the rule from the list, make the change and Save.
- If you need the reverse direction too, add a second row for it (for example 1 Gram = 0.001 Kilogram).
Worked example
A factory stocks flour in Kilograms but buys it in Tonnes:
- Unit One: Tonne, Unit Two: Kilogram, Conversion Rate: 1000.
Now 5 Tonnes is understood as 5000 Kilograms.
Tips and common mistakes
- Decide on a direction and stick to it. The Conversion Rate is how many of Unit Two make one Unit One.
- Enter numbers only in Conversion Rate.
- Convert only between units of the same kind (weight to weight). Kilogram to Litre has no fixed rate.
