A chapter inside a course. Modules break a long course into parts, and every lesson is filed under one of them.
When to use it
Straight after you create a course, before you write any lessons. You cannot add a lesson until there is a module to put it in.
Before you start
The Course must already exist, and you need create rights on this screen.
Where to find it
Knowledge and Training > Course Module.
The Knowledge and Training group is switched off in the main menu for now, so the entry is not shown. Until it is switched back on, open the screen from a link someone sends you or from a saved bookmark.
The fields on this screen
| Field (on screen) | What to enter | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Course | The course this module belongs to. Progress and certificates are worked out per course. | No |
| Title | Name of this module. It is what you pick from when you file a lesson under it. | No |
| Order | (not explained yet) | No |
| Description | Short note on what this module covers, so an author knows which lessons belong in it. | No |
How it works
Saving adds the module to its course, and it can then be picked on the Lesson screen. That is its whole effect.
A module is not counted for completion. A learner finishes a course by finishing its lessons. An empty module changes nothing, and neither does moving a lesson between two modules of the same course.
Tips and common mistakes
- Give the module a name that reads as a chapter heading. Authors pick from these names when they file a lesson, and vague names put lessons in the wrong place.
- Deleting a module leaves its lessons without a home. Move the lessons first.
