The record of work on a project that you have sublet to a subcontractor. It takes lines from the project's bill of quantities, names the price agreed for each, and holds the terms of the contract: retention, advance, TDS and the contract dates.
When to use it
You have won a project and agreed with a subcontractor that they will carry out part of it. Record the award before they start billing you, so their bills have something to be measured against.
Before you start
- The Project must exist, and its BOQ / Tender Schedule must be entered. The award draws its lines from there.
- The subcontractor must exist as a party in your Chart of Accounts.
- You need the construction entry right.
Where to find it
Entry > Construction > Subcontract Award.

How it works
- Pick the project and the subcontractor, then use Award from the BOQ to draw in the work you are subletting. Only quantity not already awarded is offered. Award 600 of a 1,000 unit line and 400 stays available to award later, to the same subcontractor or another one.
- Subletting does not stop you billing the work to your client. The award and the RA Bill draw on the same BOQ lines but keep separate running totals, so work you have sublet can still be fully claimed from the client.
- Fill in the contract terms. There is one set of terms per award, and it carries the percentages the subcontractor's bills are deducted by. You cannot add a second set.
- Saving an award posts nothing to the accounts. An award is a commitment, not a bill; booking the whole contract value on award would overstate what you owe. The money moves only when you raise a Subcontract Bill against the award and post it.
Tips and common mistakes
- If the BOQ picker offers less than you expect, the missing quantity has already been awarded on an earlier award for the same project.
- You can print the award, and that print is what you hand the subcontractor.
