The list of user groups in your workspace. A user group is the role a person belongs to. Every user is in exactly one group, and everything a person may do comes from their group. This screen only creates, renames and removes groups. What each group may do is set in Access Roles.
When to use it
When you need a new role, such as "Storekeeper" or "Branch Accountant", before you can give it to people. Also when a group's name no longer describes what its members do.
Where to find it
Setup > User > User Group Manager.
The fields on this screen
| Field (on screen) | What to enter | Required |
|---|---|---|
| User Group Name | (not explained yet) | No |
Adding a record
- Open Setup > User > User Group Manager and click Add / New.
- Enter the User Group Name.
- Save.
- Open Access Roles, select the new group and choose what it may do. A new group can do nothing until you do this.
Tips and common mistakes
- Renaming a group does not change what its members can do. Only Access Roles does that.
- Before you remove a group, move its people to another group. You can do this from the People tab in Access Roles, or the Role / Group field in Users.
- The Owner and Super admin groups are reserved. Leave them as they are.
