The categories you sort your products into, for example Raw Materials, Finished Goods or Consumables. Every product belongs to one group.
When to use it
Your company starts with a set of common groups. Come here when you need a product category that is not already in the list.
Before you start
You need an admin role.
Where to find it
Masters > Product > Product Group.
The fields on this screen
| Section | Field (on screen) | What to enter | Required |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product Group | Product Group Name | Name of the group, such as Cement or Steel. | Yes |
| Product Group | Product Group Code | Optional short code for this group, such as PG1005. Data imports match groups on it. | No |
| Product Group Type | Product Group Type | What the items in this group are, such as Raw Material, Finished Goods or Service Product. | Yes |
| Product Group Type | Product Group | The parent group this one sits under. Leave it blank for a top-level group. | No |
Adding a record
- Open Masters > Product > Product Group.
- Click Add / New.
- Enter the name and pick a Type. You can also set a code and a parent.
- Click Save.
Changing or deleting a record
- To edit, open the group from the list, make the change and Save.
- Do not delete a group that still has products in it. Move them out first.
Worked example
A factory adds a packaging category:
- Product Group Name: Packaging Materials, Type: (pick the relevant type), Code: PG1005.
Tips and common mistakes
- Group names must be unique.
- The Type is required, so pick one whenever you add or edit a group.
