The kinds of vehicle service or maintenance you want to file work under, such as Oil Change, Regular Service, Repair and Tyre Change.
When to use it
Once, while setting up the fleet, so staff recording a service have a sensible list to pick from.
Before you start
Nothing has to exist first. You need rights on Fixed Assets Setup.
Where to find it
Setup > Fixed Assets Setup > Service Category.
The fields on this screen
How it works
These rows are used in exactly one place: the Category list on a Service Record (Fleet > Service Record). The list shows the Category Name.
That is all. Code, Display Order and Description are stored, but nothing reads them. Display Order does not set the order of the list on the service record, and the Description is not shown to the person choosing. Picking a category does not send the cost to a different account or change any figure. It only labels the service so it can be found and grouped later.
Renaming a category changes what every service record already filed under it displays.
Tips and common mistakes
- Categories are labels, not accounting. If you need repairs and servicing to go to different expense accounts, that is decided on the voucher, not here.
