The curriculum map: which subjects are taught in each class, and who teaches them.
When to use it
At the start of an academic year, once the classes and subjects exist. You record which subject belongs to which class and which teacher takes it.
Before you start
- The Class / Grade and Subject masters must be filled in.
- Teachers must exist on the staff records.
- You need the school masters right.
Where to find it
Masters > School > Class Subject.
The fields on this screen
| Field (on screen) | What to enter | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Class / Grade | The class whose curriculum this row belongs to. Only active classes appear here. | No |
| Subject | The subject taught in this class. A class can carry the same subject only once. | No |
| Teacher | The teacher who takes this subject in this class. Leave it blank until it is decided. | No |
| Optional / elective | Tick when pupils in this class may choose whether to take the subject. | No |
| Active | Untick to drop this subject from the class without deleting the record. | No |
How it works
There is one record per class and subject. The same subject cannot be entered twice for the same class; the second attempt is refused.
Tick Optional / elective for a subject that not every student in the class takes. Untick Active to retire a subject from a class and still keep the record that it was once taught there.
This is a reference record. Setting a class subject here does not put the subject on a timetable or an exam datesheet. Those are entered on their own screens, and each names its own subject and teacher.
Tips and common mistakes
- If a save is refused, check whether that subject is already on the class, perhaps as an inactive record.
- When a subject changes hands, change the teacher here instead of adding a second record.
