The physical blocks of your property. A block is the top level of where a rented unit sits: block, then floor, then shutter.
When to use it
Once, when you set the property up, and again if a new block is built. You add blocks before you can add the shutters inside them.
Before you start
Nothing else has to exist first. You need the rental setup role.
Where to find it
Masters > Rental > Block.
The fields on this screen
| Field (on screen) | What to enter | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Code | Short code for the block, used where the full name will not fit. | No |
| Block Name | Name of the block or wing. Shutters and their meter readings are grouped under it. | No |
How it works
A block posts nothing to the accounts. Once saved, it appears in the Block list on Shutter, Tenancy and Meter Reading. A shutter is known by its block, floor and name together, so two blocks can each have a shutter with the same name without any clash.
If you rename a block, the new name shows on all of those screens. Do not delete a block that still has shutters under it. Take the shutters out of service instead.
Tips and common mistakes
The screen does not insist on a name or a code, and it does not check for repeats, so you can save two blocks with the same name. Give each block its own name, or the Block list on Shutter and Tenancy becomes impossible to read.
